After finishing the installation setup you need to do basic setting and some other things with your wordpress blog to make it better. in this technorial i will take you through these basic wordpress settings.
kindly login to your wordpress dashboard for these basic steps. browse yourdomain.com/wp-admin and login with your username and password.
1. Delete Default Content
By Default WordPress come up with some sample content – a Hello World Post, a sample page and a sample comment.
Open Your WordPress dashboard and then go to Posts >> All Posts. Click on Trash below Hello world post to delete.
this will delete the default wordpress post and a default comment on that post. use the same process to delete sample page. go to Pages >> All Pages. Click on Trash below sample page to delete.
2. Setup Site Title, Tagline and Time Zone
Go to Settings >> General and Set the Basic General Settings of your blog. fill Site Title, Tagline and move below for Time Zone Settings.
Select your local Time Zone and Click on Save Changes Button Below.
3. Update Ping List
By using ping service you can notify search engines that your blog has been updated so search engine bot crawl your pages and index faster.
Go to Settings >> Writing. Add some ping services and click on Save changes button to save list.

4. Discussion & Comment Moderation Setting
Comments are really crucial part of a blog. through comments your users express their thoughts on your blog posts and communicate with other users.
You can find comments settings in Settings >> Discussion. i suggest you to set it for manually approval to keep spammers away from your blog.
5. Setup Custom URL Structure
Custom URL structure is important from SEO prospective. you need to ad keywords in post URL for better SEO. To Setup your custom URL go to Settings >> Permalinks and select a setting from Plain, Day and name, Month and name, Numeric, Post name, Custom Structure.
6. Install A WordPress Theme
WordPress Blog comes with some default themes but they are useless for a professional blogger. if you are a serious blogging or building a business website then you need to install a good wordpress theme. buy a premium theme or download a free theme.
To Install a new theme go to Appearance >> Themes
click on Add New Button.
Now you have to options. first one is to select a theme from Featured, Popular, Latest, Favorites category or you can use featured filter to find a theme.
second option is to upload a theme from your computer downloaded by you earlier. to do so click on Upload Theme Button. it will open a file chooser. select theme from your computer and click Install.
Now it will display three options – Live Preview, Activate, Return to Themes Page. Click on Activate Link to use theme for your blog.
7. Add Favicon and Logo
Favicon is a small icon displayed on the browser tab. its good to have a unique favicon and a logo for your blog. you can find many online tools to make a favicon. for logo you can do it yourself or can take a help from a graphics designer.
To Add favicon and logo to your blog go to Appearance >> Customize. next window options depends on theme you are using. you can easily find options to upload a favicon and a logo.
8. Install Must Have Plugins
Plugins Make WordPress more powerful. you can do lot of things easily with plugins in wordpress. there are some plugins that you should use in your blog like Yoast SEO, W3 Total Cache.
To Add a New Plugin go to Plugin >> Add New.
You Upload or search a plugin. after finding your plugin click on Install Now Button. after completion of installation click activate.
9. Delete Unused themes and plugins
As i told you earlier wordpress installation comes with some default themes and plugins. you can delete the themes and plugin not useful for you to save some space.
To check all themes on you blog go to Appearance >> Themes and click on a theme(don’t click on Activate or Live Preview)
Click on delete to remove theme. you can also remove unsed plugin like Hello Dolly.
10. Make an Awesome User Profile
if you can write quality content on your blog then users must be interested to know more about you. they would like to follow you on social networking sites like facebook, twitter, google plus etc.
to update your profile go to Users >> Your Profile. You can update your profile info like name, social networking accounts, Biographical Info and Profile Picture etc.
11. Connect With Google Analytics and Search Console
Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Search Console are the must have tools for a blogger. to track your visitors you need google analytics. You Need Google Webmaster Search Console to monitor your blogs performance in Google Search.
